Mid-term housing for nomads in Madeira

Updated 5 Oct 2026 · Madeira Journal

Staying 1–3 months is a different market from a one-week holiday flat. Tourist short-lets dominate search results; mid-term deals often come from monthly discounts, local Facebook groups, or direct landlord contact after a short “trial” week.

Where people actually stay

Budget bands (indicative, EUR, 2025–2026 vibe)

Prices move with season and demand. Treat these as planning ranges for a simple 1-bed or studio, utilities often extra:

Ask what is included: electricity, water, internet, tourist tax, cleaning, and deposit rules.

Listing checks before you pay

  1. Internet: get a speed test screenshot from the unit, not the building lobby. Ask about fibre vs. congested LTE backup.
  2. Desk & chair: “workspace” photos often mean a kitchen counter. Confirm a real table.
  3. Noise & light: nightlife streets and west-facing glass boxes feel different after week two.
  4. Contract: written dates, total price, deposit return conditions, early-exit clause.
  5. Legitimacy: video call walkthrough; avoid wire transfers to personal accounts with no paper trail.

Connectivity backup

Even with flat Wi‑Fi, carry an eSIM or local SIM for tethering during outages and coastal coworking days. Test upload speed (calls, deploys) on day one.
